Butuan City Goes Solar: Caraga’s First Long-Term Solar Farm Powers a Greener Future
Butuan City breaks ground on Caraga’s first long-term solar farm. The 13 MWp project, led by Mobi Solar, will provide clean energy, reduce emissions, and support sustainable growth in the region.

A Milestone for Renewable Energy in Mindanao
Butuan City is taking a giant step toward sustainable energy as the first in the Caraga Region to launch a long-term solar project. The groundbreaking ceremony for the 13 MWp Butuan City 1 Solar Power Project was held on November 25 at an 8-hectare site in Barangay Bonbon, led by Mayor Law Fortun. The initiative reflects the growing collaboration between public and private sectors to accelerate the Philippines’ clean energy transition.
Powering the City and Reducing Emissions
The solar farm is a joint effort among national and local government agencies, supported by private partners including Enfinity Philippines, CHINT NED Philippines, LongNeng Electric, CHINT Solar, and Mobi Solar Philippines.
The facility will:
Deliver clean, renewable electricity to thousands of households and businesses
Reduce reliance on fossil fuels and lower carbon emissions
Support local economic growth with energy stability and cost efficiency
Mobi Solar’s Role
As the EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) partner, Mobi Solar Philippines oversees full project management, including the photovoltaic area, 69kV substation, and transmission line. Working alongside LongNeng Electric, Mobi Solar ensures the solar farm meets high standards of design, engineering, and construction, blending global expertise with local execution.
Environmental and Community Benefits
The project is expected to supply clean energy for years to come while creating local job opportunities during construction and supporting ongoing skills development in the renewable energy sector. By significantly reducing carbon emissions, it showcases how solar power can deliver lasting benefits for both communities and the environment.
A Model for Sustainable Cities
This project is about more than electricity; it’s about empowering communities and advancing a greener, more resilient future,” a CHINT representative said. The initiative aligns with broader energy and development goals, underscoring the strong potential of solar power to support long-term sustainable progress.
Lighting the Way for Caraga and Beyond
As the first long-term solar farm in Caraga, this project sets a precedent for future renewable energy initiatives in the region. It proves that strategic partnerships, innovative engineering, and forward-looking policies can come together to create lasting progress for communities, the environment, and the economy.
